I tried something new tonight.
There has been a trend in photography to use overlays called “textures” when developing photos on the computer. I’ve been resisting the urge to texture my images, party because I’m trying to stay “true” to what I see as my style and party because I’m stubborn.
Tonight I decided to mess around with them a little bit on a couple of the photos I made from the session with Katie, Jordan, and Natalie on Sunday (see blog entry below).
In the end… I like them, and it was fun experimenting. I’m not sure I’ll pursue texturing my photos much, but maybe if I come across one that I think would really work well textured.
Here are the two I worked on tonight, let me know what you think!
Okay… I thought I was done… but I worked one more in color…

A fellow night owl, huh?! : )
I really like your textures here. The images might benefit from softening up the texture over the faces and bodies. It feels a little heavy.
What a fun session you must have had. I love the documentary style.
Good night!

Hi,
I stumbled across your blog searching for engagement portrait ideas. I have been asked to take some shots of my husbands cousin and her fiance. I take a pretty decent snap shot, but I’m terrified of taking someone’s “Portrait”. I love love love your style, and love your blog. You have beautiful work. Would you be willing to share a bit of your knowledge on the texture photo. Is that in photo shop?
If I ever venture out your way I’d love for you to shoot my family. I don’t know of anyone in my neck of the woods with a style like yours. :)
