Welcome to my Slice of Life.

Welcome to my Slice of Life.

My life is about so much more than my photography, although my photography is how I communicate my life. I am so excited to have this blog to share my family, my friends, and my work - in random order.

I love photography, but I love my family and friends even more. Bringing my passions together and sharing them daily is what this blog is about.

There is something about that dang photograph that I can’t stop looking at. Not a specific photograph, but that photograph that I think captures more than just a moment in time. A photo should be much more than that. It is so important to me to capture a photograph that means something to you, to me, to all the people that will be looking at it for years. That photo that says who we are as people.

Welcome to my Slice of Life.

Oliver is in full swing of his baseball season and it is a blast to watch! Oliver LOVES baseball, and his doing great for his first year playing. He really slugs the ball.

Well, he usually slugs the ball. : ) Strike one!

It’s a hit! What form… just like Dad.

Headed for first…

Safe with a double!

Great job Slugger!

A first, some music, and some s’mores…

By jim at 1:59 am on Friday, May 23, 2008 | No comments

Yesterday was a beautiful day in Minneapolis. One of those spring days when you fight being inside. So we stayed out.

I was out mowing when Isaac came out and asked hopefully, “Dad, can I try?” My initial instinct was to respond “No, you’re too young.” But I thought about it, and maybe I say ‘no’ too often. After all, I’m pretty sure I was younger than Isaac when I began mowing the lawn. Sweet. This will save me an hour a week, until later this summer when it actually doesn’t seem quite so new. : )

Once we finished the ‘chore,’ Bergen wanted to go play the guitar down by the creek. As we walked I realized I forgot a blanket, and Bergen doesn’t do grass, so we found a park bench along the trail. Bergen adores her guitar and singing, and I unbiasly say she’s pretty dang good at both.

First she gave a mini-concert on the steps…

Walking along the creek…

Oliver’s favorite climbing tree…

A little public concert…

Oliver also takes guitar lessons, although he much prefers his electric guitar and amp!

Walking home with Slugger…

Once home neighbor Tim tuned Bergen’s guitar and played a little for her. She is fascinated by someone playing the guitar well.

The evening begged for a little fire and some s’mores…

And Bergen gave one final concert for neighbor Jane and Sammy…

I’m glad I take pictures.

I turned 40 yesterday.

By jim at 4:14 pm on Wednesday, May 21, 2008 | 3 Comments

It came and went. I wasn’t really looking forward to it. It’s just a number, but not my favorite number. Tuesday night I was sitting here and didn’t have a single plan for my day. I was trying to think of something to do for myself that would make the day a little more tolerable. Then it occurred to me what I wanted to do.

I called my old studiomate, Matt Blum, an incredible young wedding and portrait photographer, and fascinating person, and asked if you had time to shoot a portrait session of me. It was out of the box for me… I’ve never really been on the “other” side of the camera.

It was a great experience, and Matt got some good and creative stuff, although I’m still getting used to looking at them.

Maybe this should become a tradition for me on my birthday.

Here are a few from the session that Matt sent over to me last night. Thank you, Matt.

A Fargo Marathon Weekend

By jim at 4:15 pm on Monday, May 19, 2008 | 1 Comment

This past weekend was the Fargo Marathon Weekend. This event has really grown into something special for Fargo with over 12,500 runners participating. I was proud that so many in my family participated in the events: My sister, me, and two cousins ran the 1/2 marathon (13.1 miles), my nephew ran the full marathon (26.2 miles, great job Tyler, so proud of you for this huge accomplishment!), and my two brothers and two cousins had a relay team and finished 20th of 300 teams. Several other Fuglestad’s participated in the 5k.

A great fun weekend topped off with our annual Syttende Mai party hosted my brother at my Aunt’s house this year. It even made the Fargo Forum newspaper!

Oh… also I need to congratulate another nephew, Logan, for breaking Oak Grove’s 40some year old school record in the pole vault! Logan vaulted 12 feet - more than a foot higher than he previously had, and qualified for the state meet in doing so!

I’m proud of all of you! Love you guys!

Carbo-loading at registration…

Early the morning of the events…

Sandy and I after finishing…

Tyler and Sandy… seriously Tyler… that was so awesome to finish your first marathon! Now don’t let up before TCM!

Our family won the Norwegian Triva contest! The first time I’ve been on the winning team. I’m horrible, but I did remember that Norway just build bunkers to store seeds.

The newspaper article from Sunday morning…

And my brother, his girlfriend Kim, and I did manage to join a few other high school friends out late Saturday night. Friends are great! Congratulations to you David on your 19th marathon and Char on the 1/2 marathon!  Oh… and Kyle!  Congratulations on being named Oak Grove’s new varsity basketball coach on Friday!

See you next year, and hopefully the full marathon for me!

We did it!

By jim at 10:32 pm on Sunday, April 27, 2008 | 1 Comment

My good friend and old neighbor Dan and I decided in February to run a 1/2 marathon in Nisswa, Minnesota. Yesterday was the day.

It’s April 26th. I kind of expected the weather to be at least normal. 40 degrees maybe? Well… umm… no.

Blizzard conditions for 13 miles - but we finished!!!

Great weekend, thanks Dan. You’re a great friend. And your cabin rocks.

Want to smile today? And giggle a lot?

This blog is just too cute and giggly.

I Can Has Cheezburger

A few of my favorites…

Really people… this is hysterically funny. Or maybe I smile easily.

You might have to have had a cat to understand this… We used to bait Harvey with the can opener…

One more… but they go on and on…
